You can participate in the Royal Commission’s work in many ways, and you may not need a lawyer to do so. If legal representation, legal advice and/or legal help is required, Legal Assistance may be available if:
You were a child, young person or vulnerable adult in care; or
A whānau, aiga or family member was a child, young person or vulnerable adult in care; and
Hardship would occur if Legal Assistance was not approved
To fully understand Legal Assistance eligibility, you should read the Question and Answer section on the Abuse in Care Legal Assistance web page. The Royal Commission has also issued a formal Practice Note. This information can be accessed at www.abuseincare.org.nz/legalassistance.
